Why do children need to wear sunglasses?

Just as you would protect your child’s skin from harmful UV rays, it is important to also protect their eyes.
According to Prevent Blindness America, children’s’ eyes do not have the more developed UV protection which adults have. Unprotected exposure to UV lights could result in a burned cornea or cataracts.

When should children wear sunglasses?

Sunglasses should be worn whenever children are outdoors. However, the sun’s UV rays the strongest between the hours of 10am-4pm. Sunglasses should also be worn on seemingly cloudy days because UV rays easily travel through clouds and reflect off sun, sand, water and even concrete.

How do I know which sunglass to buy for my child?

Toy sunglasses are not enough. The most important feature of sunglasses is 100% protection from UV and UVB rays. Additionally, sunglasses should be big enough for your child’s head or have a “wrap around” feature to block rays coming in from the sides of the frame.

Are there different sizes and styles?

My First Shades™ come in many fashion forward colors and styles so your kids will love wearing them!
ABC Shades are recommended for children, infants to three years.

Really Cool Shades, Big Leaguers and Just for Girls are recommended for children 3 to 7 years.

Xtremes come in two sizes: Small is recommended for children 3 to 7 years and Large is recommended for children 7 years and up.
